Swimming strong for triathlon

To be a good swimmer as a triathlete you must swim like a swimmer. Ideally if you can find your self a strong master swim group you will benefit greatly. Swimming with others who are stronger than you will force you to up your game. Thus you will start to adapt to there technique and seek out how they do things to be fast.

This is how I adapted to getting stronger on the triathlon swim leg. When I first showed up to a swim group I had every one laughing at me because I slapped the crap out of the water and kicked so poorly that I had about a four foot high splash in the air.

I stuck with it though and got good swim coaching from great swimmers can coaches alike. Today I can swim a decent mile at 19:12. This is 6 minutes faster than when I started.

Swimming involves lots of technique. You could train all you want but if your technique is crap your not going to get faster. Thus watch how they swim ask how they swim. Here is a great link on watching an OK swimmer named Michael Phelps swim ;)

Triathlon coaching has taught me that this is a sport that rewards you for the time you put in. Stick with it have fun and believe you will get to ware you want to go.

That is my triathlon coaching advice for today.
