I brick in almost every training day for my half iron in October. If I am scheduled for a swim day I usually add a short bike ride. If I have a ride day I will either swim easy and then ride or ride hard and run easy. I am finding my T times getting shorter and my performance getting signficantly better especially getting the run going faster to start with.

bricks are used to build things. foundations, chimneys, etc. they are connected with mortar in layers, one brick over another.

in essence, each segment of a triathlon is 1 brick. in order to fasten these bricks, you need mortar, or transitions. you stack your bricks in various configurations in order to build things, i.e. your fitness level and capabilities in the sport. you fasten your bricks with your transitions, and before you know it, you are an experienced brick-layer that may win a triathlon (with some sweat)!

hope this analogy helps...
