This tip is in response to a triathlete who wants to know more about swimming in open water (lakes, ocean, etc) A great question, as it is something all triathletes should incorporate into there training. Check out my video on open water swimming tips below.

What’s the most efficient technique for turning around the buoys in the open water swim? Kinnie in N.C.
Thanks for the open water swim advice. So very helpful!!!
What can I do to get my hip up in the water? I have only recently started swimming and my legs sink. My head is down, even submerged in the water, so I dont think that is the problem.
Kerry you might mention to open water swimmers to find out about currents, possibly rip tides if in the ocean swimming.
Be aware of weather changes if you are going to be in the water a significant amount of time.
Boat traffic, submerged objects…
Know the area you are swimming in as much as possible.
Thanks for the tips.
I do swim in the open water once a week but I’m not much of a swimmer. I’m having a hard time learning to breath while doing the Crawl.
Someone suggested that I use a float to practice breathing. I’ll start to do that and hopefully start swimming on my own.
Is this a good way to learn breathing while swimming Freestyle?
I have a question on a different topic. I have heard that biking on a trainer is more difficult say for an hour than on the road. I feel like that is true from my limited experience on a trainer. Will riding on a trainer for winter base training at the same heart rate, ie 140min on the trainer, for the same duration, ie 120 minutes, result in better, worse, or the same aerobic fitness level for the bike after 12 weeks?
I LOVE YOUR TIPS!!! Thanks for all your helpful advice and energetic personality. I get motivated and learn so much by listening to you.
Rock on, Gina from NJ
